Work from HomeTruth is I am not very good at working from home. I have a cute kid (who is out of school) a cute dog (who always wants to play) and a cute wife (who is also working from home). However, this is the reality for many of us for the foreseeable future so we better shape up.

I wanted to share a few things we are working on to make work at home work for us:

Get Up, Get Dressed, Get Going: A morning routine is important even if you aren’t leaving the house. Get up, have your coffee, meditate/exercise, shower, get dressed (even workout clothes are better then pajamas) and get the day started. I try to avoid watching the news or paying attention to the negativity and bickering on social media in the morning.

Work in shifts (if needed): With a busy…

With everyone doing their part to keep the virus under control we wanted to share a few things our family is doing to keep our minds occupied and stay sane:

DIY Projects: Over the past three days we have tackled refinishing our dining room table. Allison has had this table longer than she has had me and it's looking a bit tiered/dated so we did some research (on YouTube) and jumped in. For less then $300 we were able to refinish the table, leaf and 6 chairs in three days (Allison will post before and afters at some point).

Education: Sophia's school is closed but they have provided us with lesson plans and the curriculum they were/are working on. It's actually very cool to see her focus and work away though she says I am not as good at…

City of Calgary, March 2, 2020 –

This month saw a double-digit gain in sales, but last February was one of the slowest levels of activity since the late ’90s.

With the extra day this February, monthly sales totaled 1,197 units.  A combination of these two factors resulted in a 23 per cent improvement over last year, but sales remain well below longer-term trends and consistent with the lower levels reported over the past five years.

“However, this should not diminish the fact that conditions are still improving,” said CREB® chief economist Ann-Marie Lurie.

“Calgary is continuing to see slow reductions in the amount of oversupply in the market, from modest changes in demand and reductions in supply. This needs to occur before we can see…

The Sold Story:

We put a lot of effort into marketing our clients homes, regardless of the price point and sometimes our marketing really comes through for us: 2106 950 Arbour Lake Road NW is a beautiful condo with views spanning from the Downtown Skyline, across COP to the Rocky Mountains and we sold it sight unseen!

The buyer was relocating from BC and had been searching online for a few months, she had seen the amazing photos, true to life 3D tour and floor plan for #2106. When she finally sold her home in Langley-with not much time to spare-she contacted her Realtor who after a quick Facetime conversation at the condo submitted an offer that evening and we had a conditional sale by noon the next day. Last night the deal firmed up at…

Last year we closed on a beautiful, gut renovated townhouse in Patterson. Truth is, it was a tough sale. We received an offer after three days in the market, unfortunately the buyer was unable to arrange financing. This is a drag but happens in our market especially with banks tightening up.

The following weekend we had a very busy open house and received an offer from a very nice young family with a newborn baby and a beautiful (well behaved) chocolate lab. We negotiated the offer and agreed on a very good price, terms, etc. Three days later the condo board declined the dog even though the bylaws say nothing about a size restriction for pets. Frustrating again but we moved on.

We set back to work and through some of our marketing found…

Upon a recommendation through a different Century 21 branch in a different city I hired Craig. I previously had my home listed for close to a year with a different associate with a different brokerage. I let my listing expire, and feeling very frustrated, I contacted Craig to give the sale another go.

Craig had beautiful pictures of my property done. He also made outstanding advertisement cards of the property. I trusted the feedback Craig provided to me, and took his advice on sale price. Craig had my listing for a little over a month, and an offer came in. It was my first offer in a year, and the sale closed final the next month.

I read testimonials similar to my situation, people having their property listed for long periods of time with…

The Economy in Alberta has changed drastically, maybe the way we choose our real estate professionals should change as well. For decades we chose Realtors based on ads in the newspaper, for sale signs in the neighbourhood, door knocking, flyers in the mailbox or maybe you had a cousin who sold real estate on the side. Today I want to talk about a few thoughts/strategies around choosing a realtor and maybe debunk a couple myths.

1. My friend, family member, etc is a Realtor/My parents have a Realtor. There are 100,000+ licensed realtors in Canada...everyone knows someone who knows someone who is a Realtor but every Realtor isn't a good fit for every client (that was a mouthful, I know). With a constantly changing market who you choose to work with can…

Today we stroll through Royal Oak, one of NW Calgary’s favourite family neighbourhoods (and just so happens to be our neighbourhood).
Royal Oak has a variety of housing options from 1 bedroom condos to family size townhomes, starter to move-up and Estate Homes.
Residents enjoy numerous parks and playgrounds, a community garden, walking/biking trails and close-by schools along with close proximity to the many shops, services, restaurants and amenities along Country Hills Blvd. Easy access to both Stoney and…

This is part 3 of our three part series on Responsible home ownership (read part 1 here and part 2 here). We are living in a new economy in Calgary and because of this new economy we need to think a bit differently about the home buying process. As always- don't hesitate reach out if you have questions or concerns about buying a home.

A great Realtor can make a huge difference in the buying process and educating you about what you are buying. On the other hand, a Realtor who isn't aware of their limitations can be a huge detriment to a real estate transaction. For example: I don't sell/lease commercial real estate. I can, I am licensed to trade on the commercial side but it's not something I am knowledgeable in and it would not be in my client’s…

Buy a home like you give a damn

Buying Real Estate is a process and no two purchases are the same. Whether it's your first home purchase or your fiftieth investment take it seriously and follow the proper steps.
